portrait of an exploding terrorist (trocadero billboard)
This exhibition was censored by maribyrnong council during the fringe festival06.
The billboard work contains the main title of the painting "portrait of an exploding terrorist" (2006). It was intended to inform the public of the artist's intention to carry the painting (displayed inside gallery) through the streets of melbourne - part of The Carriers Project.

The image below shows the billboard work being taken down due to the council's complaint that it was considered "advertising" - and the gallery has to pay a fee for this (out of gallery's budget). If the fee wasn't paid, the gallery would face a $5000 fine. Nothing like threats to scare galleries into submission.
